Frequently Asked Questions About Family Sessions

How far in advance should I book my family photo session?

I am currently booking approximately 1-3 weeks in advance. Contact me to inquire.
Holiday card photos are ideally taken at photo sessions from September to October.

How do we pick a location for our family photo session?

If you have a location that is meaningful to you, I'd love to photograph you there.
I am happy to recommend some local parks and beautiful areas. Take a look through my blog and see if any locations resonate with you.
Travel for family shoots is included up to 15 miles from Westport, CT.

What do we wear to our family photo session?

You photograph beautifully when you wear something you feel beautiful in. Let that be your guide.
There is no need to dress in matching outfits, but I do recommend to dress similarly on the same casual to formal spectrum and coordinate colors that look nice together.
White and light neutral colors naturally reflect light onto your face and photograph beautifully.
Please avoid neon and small patterns.

What time of day is our family photo session?

The most beautiful outdoor photographs are taken about an hour before sunset or after sunrise, during "golden hour". I will recommend an exact time to you based on the sun down or sun rise time of that season. Should this not work for your children, we will find the next best time, as close to sunset or sunrise as possible or in open shade.

Should we have our hair and makeup done professionally for the session?

It's entirely up to you. It's not necessary at all. If it's fun for you, go for it!

Can we bring our dog?

If we are shooting at a dog friendly location, I am more than happy to accommodate well behaved dogs. If you want to have some photographs without your dog, consider bringing a family friend to help out.

How do I receive my photographs?

Once your gallery is ready, I will email you a link to your personalized online gallery. From there, you can download your high resolution photographs.

Do you photograph newborn sessions?

I welcome newborns in my family sessions. These are photographed either in your home, just outside your home, or in a local park. (Please note that I am not currently photographing inside homes during the Covid-19 pandemic.)
I do not photograph the posed “baby in a basket” style of photography but rather a more natural style in line with what you see for my family photography.
How does payment work?

Payment is due in full to book your session.
Payment may be made by check or credit card.
If you decide to add something additional the day of your shoot, i.e. more time, payment can be made the same day.

Are there any additional costs to our family photo session?

Everything is included in the total price.
The only additional cost would be if you would like to be photographed at a location farther than 15 miles from Westport, CT. The travel charge is minimal and depends on the distance.

Prints may be purchased from your gallery if you chose. There is no obligation and you have rights and high resolution files should you chose to print on your own.
How do I give credit of your work when I use the images?
Please include “Photo Credit: Tracy Rodriguez Photography” where possible and appropriate. Also, please tag Tracy Rodriguez Photography on social media.
